I am working on a preliminary configuration for a customer who is interested in providing database access to PC users, so we will be talking about Rdb and SQL Services. The customer also wants an end user query package and has asked us to propose three levels of interface: command interface, menu interface, and "point and click" interface. The first two are easy to do with DEC tools. My question is: are there any 3rd party tools that run on IBM clones, interface with Rdb, and have a mouse/window type interface? Thanks... Al

I'm not sure if it's what you are looking for, but you might try Gateway Systems in Okemos, Michigan. The Synergist software they developed interfaces PCs and VAXes with Rdb, and will coordinate local and remote databases. Applications are developed in a 4GL that you use on the PC, then move the application code itself to the VAX. ---- Michael Booth | |||||

Thanks... I've contacted Gateway Systems. It looks like it will satisfy their needs. One of the attractive things about it is that you can build both host-based and PC-resident applications with the same user interface. |
