374.0. "Ingres stomping cobol DISPLAY?" by RAIN::CELENTANO (John Celentano, CT SWS) Fri Jun 23 1989 05:14
Here is a strange one for some speculation:
A customer has COBOL 4.2-41A and VMS V5.1 on a 6340 linked
with Ingres SQL calls for the DB stuff.
Under reproducible conditions, a statement such as:
DISPLAY WS-COND-CODE BOLD.
will produce an image exit and dump with a %SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO,
access violation error. The virtual address points to the
SYS$EXIT code and the PC pointing to an address which is not
in legal range for the current process.
Furthermore, remove the 'BOLD' and the same program runs OK.
I am fairly certain that the version of Ingres being run is
causing the problem. (It is a "special" release for VMS V5).
Now, what can I do or look for that would prove this?
I have also posted this in the COBOL conference.
Thanks for any/all useful suggestions.
