I have a potential Rdb customer who is a PC shop with token-ring
"network". Wants to move to VAX. I thought I had it made with
Rdb, CDD/PLUS, RALLY. Now I am told that INGRES has been in again
doing a good job convincing them that they need to go with INGRES
running on ULTRIX ! I am becoming increasing frustrated over this.
I want you who read this that this appears to be a new tactic
of RTI when they can't out sell layered products on VMS...so they
switch to Ultrix, where they know we don't have a database product.
Can anyone suggest a good, quick counter to what RTI is trying to
do to my customer ?

Sell the advantages of Rdb performance, physical tuning, etc, persuade
the customer that only the hardware manufacturer can make the best
use of the hardware. Sell VMS as a better O/S than Unix.
In addition, speak to your local Rdb product manager.
