337.0. "Zoned Unsigned Datatypes and POWERHOUSE" by VAOU02::ICAESAR (Ian Caesar (VCO 604-382-6464)) Wed Apr 19 1989 21:58

    A comment/question from a POWERHOUSE user follows:

    	Rdb does not support zoned unsigned datatypes. Right now users
	are choosing to NOT use Rdb with POWERHOUSE because of this.
	Will Rdb add support for zoned unsigned datatypes?

    Is this true? Is it a problem? Is there a work-around?

    Can we answer the customer's question about zoned unsigned datatypes?

337.2Maybe let Rdb convert for youHGOVC::DEANGELISHi MumThu Apr 20 1989 11:166
    Well, if you can store the data in one of Rdb's current datatypes
    and Powerhouse manipulates the data via its own zoned datatype then
    Rdb will convert from the database format to the Powerhouse datatype
    at run time. I'm not sure what a zoned unsigned is though.

    John.
337.3Can't Powerhouse use binary?WIBBIN::NOYCEBill Noyce, FORTRAN/PARALLELTue May 02 1989 20:414
    .2 is close. You should use [scaled] Quadword to store the data
    (Longword if 9 digits or less; Word if 4 or less). But Rdb/VMS
    doesn't convert to/from any datatypes except those it supports for storage.
    This would be a perfectly reasonable wish.

    Exactly the types of comments I've heard from the Cognos folks
    lately......

    Sounds like a typical sales ploy...."but Mr. customer, what will YOU do
    when you find that you need DOUBLE FLOATATION GEOPOLAR AXIAL
    ABRASIVITY?" Hmmmmm???
