G'day, I am looking for information (or pointers to) products that provide some level of integration across DBMSs from different vendors. As you are all aware, most large organizations have more than one DBMS installed supporting their daily activities. Homogeneous environments are the exception, not the rule. A question that is frequently asked is how do we (DEC) integrate these dispariate DBMSs. I have found a product called ACCESS/STAR from a company called DB/ACCESS. The info I have on this product, however, states that it accesses Rdb via DATATRIEVE domains only. Are there any other products that provide this integration capability? Thanks for any info provided, Nik

315.1 | Check SQL Services | HGOVC::DEANGELIS | Hi Mum | Wed Mar 22 1989 06:51 | 7 |
This question may be addressed by our SQL Services program, where Rdb databases may be accessed by Unix, MSDOS etc, and I suppose other VAX systems by using the SQL Services API. However, this is only providing a gateway from other vendors to Rdb, so the onus is on the 3rd parties to provide the solution given the tools. John.
315.2 | How about Uniface ? | YUPPY::FISKEA | Mon May 15 1989 13:19 | 7
There's a Dutch product that's marketed in the UK by SIA called Uniface; it's a 4GL which supports access to a multitude of databases. I don't know if it's available where you are - I can track down some more information on the product should you require. Best regards, Alison.
