Does anyone have (or point me to) a list of main features of RDB
and all layered products that can be used with it. I am currently
in the process of evaluating the amount and variety of features
and layered products between RDB/VMS V3.0A (or possibly FT3.1)
and System 1032 V7.0 This may evolve intop a possible future migration
from 1032 to RDB/VMS for one of DEC's largest internal data warehouses.
This could be the *big break* where DEC starts using its *own* product
and eventually the entire corporation will follow to eliminate any
need of 3rd party database products. I believe from what I have
been reading in this notes file that _the time has come_ to re-
evauluate the data warehouse space for internal database products.
If anyone can point me to the right note or list the different
capapbilites of each product, I'd appreciate it.
Best regards,
John Bonin (DBA)

Here's a List I've been showing customers....
Doesn't show products that WE sell (Decslide,graph,20/20, cdd etc)
But it's long enough....
Hope this helps,
Gil

| 310.2 | Here is a list of Rdb/VMS Features | CLYPPR::CARPENTER | Exiled Canard | Mon Mar 06 1989 17:26 | 636 |
Here is one of a series of articles I put together for a special BUFFER issue
that we produced last July to announce Rdb V3.0 (I have a few copies left).
It details most of the features of Rdb as of V3.0 (next releases not included)
and should help. See me if you would like the pretty POSTSCRIPT or LN03 format
and I'll mail it to you.

Rdb/VMS V3.0 The Untold Story
1 Overview
Recently I was asked to fill in a chart of
requirements for a database system that an outside
consultant was going to use to do an evaluation of
Rdb/VMS. As the chart did not ask for input on many
of the things that Rdb/VMS V3.0 now supports, I felt
it was in our interest to include them. Most of these
features fall under the Database Structure section.
Since the chart was completed, it made sense to
include it here for general use by the field.

| 310.3 | List in .1 is NOT Correct ! | MAIL::DUNCANG | Gerry Duncan @KCO | Tue Mar 07 1989 15:06 | 22 |
ALL READERS PLEASE NOTE:
Home Office Reference Lab *DOES NOT* use Rdb *NOR* are they
an OEM. I know this because they are my account.
I've been trying to find the source of this data ever since
I received this same list over 3 weeks ago. It seems than noone
knows where it comes from !!
I do wish the originators of this information would check these
facts before sending these lists and at least have the courtesy
of contacting the account rep. before publishing the customer's
phone number. I suppose that since all customers are granted
an Rdb license with VMS 5.1, we'll have a new list that contains
every VMS customer !!
FYI ... Home Office uses Oracle .... they are a mixed environment
(Honeywell and MS-DOS) and needed something portable. More
importantly, they selected a case tool that locked them into
Oracle !!
