***** This is posted in the Rdb notes file too ***** Hi, I'm a software specialist supporting our Database products and am currently working an opportunity for a large aerospace corporation. The customer is evaluating Oracle, Interbase and Rdb and has requested that each of us run the DeWitte benchmark. We are definitely the underdogs in this situation as they are currently using both Oracle and Interbase. The purpose of this evaluation is to measure performance and determine the Db of choice for future development projects. O Has anyone run the DeWitte benchmark for Rdb V3.0? O Does anyone have a document explaining the specifications/rules of the benchmark? We're aiming to run the benchmark in January, so we need to get a hold of the specifications as soon as possible. Any help or direction would be appreciated. We want to win this one! Thanks for your help, Robin

Call Rusty Fleming, the Los Angeles Benchmark center mgr. He may be able to help you or give you some leads. Also look at notes 12 and 147 in this conference. These authors may be good contacts. Not to throw cold water in your face, but you probably don't have enough time to make a trial benchmark run AND you live benchmark run in January. I was at the LAX benchmark center in December and it looked to be completely filled until mid-Feb. If you're planning to use the customer's equipment, insist that no other users are on the system and that all vendors use the same configuration. I don't know anything about this DeWitte measurement but please be careful about Oracle. If they use V6, there are special parameters they can turn on just for benchmarking. If possible, try to force the benchmark into a cluster ... NOONE runs better there than us. Good luck and give me a call this afternoon is you want to talk. --gerry dtn 452-3445 or 816 943-3445 |
