274.0. "Oracle Devlpmnt to Unix from VMS" by MDVAX4::DUNCANG (Gerry Duncan @KCO) Wed Dec 14 1988 15:34
In speaking with an Oracle consultant last weekend, he told me they
were shifting their primary development platform from VMS to Unix.
(He didn't say which box.)
In our attempt to win a hefty order vs Honeywell, we have had word
from the account that Oracle has casually mentioned that if the
customer wants something really fast, they should look at Sequent.
With RDB and Sybase (according to this consultant) putting the heat on
Oracle, I wonder if this is the beginning of Oracle to position
themselves where there is the least competition. Regardless of
their marketing message, the masquerade party won't go on forever.
Have any of you experienced similar "bait and switch" scenarios
?

| I hope this experience frightens sales reps who let the customer
choose Oracle as long as DEC gets to sell the "iron"!
