244.1 | ZKO folks might help | NUTMEG::SILVERBERG | | Thu Nov 10 1988 21:20 | 5 |
| I believe the ULTRIX Third Party Group in ZKO and the Database
Systems Group are the drivers of these distribution agreements.
ORACLE info might be acquired from Mary Doyle in ZKO3, but I
don't know who the RTI contact is.

| We have no tools agreement with ORACLE, and they don't appear interested
in one (they just want to steal the entire database business). We DO
have a tools agreement with RTI. You could try contacting Vickie
QUILL::Farrell, the DBS Marketing Manager, who will pass the request off
to one of her people.

244.3 | a little more detail | NUTMEG::SILVERBERG | | Tue Nov 15 1988 14:40 | 6 |
| I think we're both right...our DDS agreement with ORACLE for all
their products, including tools, is written for ULTRIX. We have
agreement with ORACLE to resell their tools on VMS under special
prime circumstances under the Software Services Special Sales
Agreement.

| Don't forget that SQL-based tools are still available from STI in
the form of SMARTSTAR, a CMP, and BBJ Computers product, TODAY.
Both are 4GLs that run on Rdb and RMS and are SQL-based. The advantage
is that a rival database vendor need not be used.

PS
Don't forget the charming arrangement where we sell Oracle/PC (DECnet
ready, yet) via DECdirect. Competes nicely with our desktop
connectivity strategy.

Would you care to enlarge on the term `special prime circumstances'?

| As I understand it, if Digital is the prime , and the customer requires
Oracle, then the sales rep can get credit for "selling" Oracle/VMS.
Slick, huh?
There are thousands of chances for abuse in this program.

244.7 | revenue & customer satisfaction | NUTMEG::SILVERBERG | | Fri Nov 18 1988 15:08 | 14 |
| If Digital is acting in an integration role or prime contractor
role, and the customer requires a single point of sale/contact,
Digital has had this special program in place for a while. Other
ISVs etc are part of the program as well, and it is coordinated
through the Software Services org. If you want further info on
the program & ORACLE, contact Lisa Radcliffe or Jim Beebe.
I suggest that if anyone thinks that abuses are either happening
or pose a substantial risk, the SWS Program Manager should be
contacted. I am sure they would be happy to acquire input. (I
don't know who the right contact is).
