237.0. "RDB Nitty-Gritty RFP Questions" by TRCA03::TOYONAGA () Wed Nov 02 1988 22:17

    I'm having a problem locating the answers to a long list of detailed
    RDB/VMS questions for a government RFP, such as: "maximum number of
    tables for view, join, project, union, intersect, append, and maximum
    number of open data files", "maximum number of indexes and compound
    indexes", "types of sorts and number of fields", "data types with
    ranges (eg. date, time, currency, boolean)", etc, etc, etc. After
    searching the RDB_VMS_COMPETITION and RDB_OLD conferences, the
    PROPOS:: Infobase, SPD's, 16-Jun-88 Buffer articles, DECtp seminar
    stuff, and conferring with local and regional specialists, I still
    have lots of un-answered questions. Other than going through the
    entire RDB doc'n set, is there any condensed source for this sort
    of information? Perhaps someone has a similar proposal that could be
    shared in this conference?

    Thanks in Advance,

    Have you read the DECtp Buffer Supplement (August 1988)?

    Chapter 4, "VAX RDB/VMS VERSION 3.0 - THE UNTOLD STORY"
    contains heaps of tables such as Database Parameters.

237.2Please send your completed RFPsDEBIT::DREYFUSTue Dec 13 1988 19:478
If you readers of this notes file can forward me copies of completed
RFPs (and even uncompleted ones), I will compile the answers and
redistribute the composite. I will also search out the incomplete
answers to make this task easier in the future.

237.3Oh, David, PLEASE!!SNOC01::ANDERSONKMy DEBIT/CREDIT performance is lousyWed Dec 14 1988 04:4511
    We make a practice of referring constantly to sections, chapters,
    tables, figures etc in the appropriate documentation, hence encouraging
    reviewers of RFP responses to read the info in context. Please do
    likewise in your composite (I'll send you some stuff to start you
    off on DBA slanted issues), and work with the documentation writers
    so you can keep the documentation pointers up to date.

    PS: I find the new Guide to Maintenance and Performance is excellent,
    and it looks like it is going to get even better! Thanks, Rod et
