219.0. "VMS, ULTRIX, and OSF -- One DB for all systems?" by KESEY::GETSINGER (Eric Getsinger) Tue Oct 18 1988 00:42
I need a database product that runs in a variety of environments.
First, I am part of a group that is developing a corporate terminology
database. (Please note that I am not an engineer. I don't even play
one on TV!) We need a database that can be accessed by VMS and ULTRIX
users alike. In addition, as DIGITAL moves forward with OSF, the
database will need to be compatible with all three operating systems.
Is Rdb a potential solution, or do I need to look at INGRES, Oracle,
and Sybase?
Second, I have a RALLY/Rdb/TEAMDATA database application that VMS
users like. When I showed it to one manager, though, the first
question was: "Will this run under ULTRIX?" A fine question, but
one that I can't answer. Is SQL something that will do me some
good?
I guess, in a nutshell, I am trying to find a database product that
can be simultaneously used by VMS, ULTRIX, and OSF users. Can someone
point me in the right direction?
