218.0. "Portability Issues" by BELFST::MILLING (Paul Milling, SWAS Belfast) Fri Oct 14 1988 22:24
Our Government Sector salesmen are coming under increasing pressure
from UK Government policies which promote adoption of standards
such as UNIX, POSIX (if theres is such a thing) etc., which ultimately
enables 'hardware vendor independence' - and I believe in the
tooth fairy too!! This of course gives ORACLE a field day in
Government Departments and makes our job of promoting our excellent
database products very difficult. Has anyone out there encountered
this 'standards' and 'portability' issue before and managed to win?
If so, please let me have your arguments as I'm afraid to say that we're
beginning to run short - but we're not giving up yet!!
Many thanks in advance
Paul Milling
