| >Does INGRES support a SQL module language similar to that found in VAX/SQL?
I believe the answer is NO. Take a look at the DECtp special issue of
THE BUFFER to find out for sure. There is an electronic copy in one of
the first notes of the BANZAI::RDB conference.

193.2 | No, Non, Nein | BANZAI::CARPENTER | Exiled Canard | Thu Sep 15 1988 21:16 | 5 |
| The answer is NO for the current version. I don't believe it is something
they are doing for the future either. We'll keep you posted.

193.3 | What is a module language | RDGE44::ANDERSON | | Tue Sep 20 1988 12:43 | 7 |
| I'm not sure what you mean by module language, but INGRES has 2
query languages: QUEL and SQL. Both can be embedded into host
languages such C, PASCAL, FORTRAN, ADA, BASIC, etc. (otherwise known
as EQUEL and ESQL). The embedded program can in turn be called
by ABF through OSL. Is that any help?

| As far as I know, Digital is the ONLY VENDOR supporting ANSI Module
Language.

| At the last DECUS I asked the RTI guy if they were going to produce
a module language, he said that they had to in order to validate
and validation was important.
I then asked him when and he said that it might make it into the
next release.
Sounds to me that they are working on it, and you should be seeing
it in 6-12 months.

193.6 | "compiled query" INGRES 6.1 | TAVIS::ARIE_L | Arie Levy | Wed Oct 05 1988 16:49 | 5 |
| INGRES ver 6.1 (4th Q 88) will include "compiled query". it is
a set of ESQL commands that compiled once as a subroutine and may
be executed several times in runtime, using different values for
parameters. It is not ANSI module language, but have the same
performence gains.
