182.0. "ALL-IN-1 SSM and Oracle Questions" by BRDWLK::FARLOW (Steve Farlow - St. Louis) Thu Aug 25 1988 21:10
I have a customer that has an Oracle database. They are interested in
our ALL-IN-1 System for Sales and Marketing. However, they would like
to be able to extract information from their Oracle database to feed
into the SSM screens.
They are considering writing an application similar to SSM that may
run on another platform. However, if there is a way to access the data
in the Oracle database for the SSM system they may use it instead.
Although I am working to keep Oracle out of any Digital accounts that I
am involved with, this is a situation where it is there and we are
trying to keep our presence up in the account, as well as help out the
customer.
I told the salesperson that I thought that some code could be written to
spool some data from the Oracle database to a file. The file could then
be read and written into an RMS file that could be accessed by the SSM.
Does anyone know for sure how this could work?
Also, is there any way to do a more interactive way of retrieving data
from the Oracle database for SSM based on an inquiry? How difficult
would it be to code the applications to do the work (whole files or
queries)?
Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

| Oracle is advertising that with their new ALL-IN-1 interface, the
Oracle database can be queried directly from an ALL-IN-1 menu. You
might check with Oracle to see what the reality really is.
