105.0. "Benchmark for V3" by ZPOV02::JEFFREYCHOY (Master_of_none) Tue Mar 29 1988 11:15

    Hi,

    I have to do a benchmark for Rdb/VMS. The competition includes
    INGRES on SUN, Oracle on Appollo and Ingres on HP.

    The config uses one microvax 3600 as a server in a LAVC of 4
    workstations.

    My concern is we are still on version 2.3 but my competitors
    would probably be using their newly release INGRES.
     Besides INGRES running on UNIX is impressive.

    The question is, should I run the benchmark with version 3 Rdb/VMS.
    (field test kit)

    If so, where do I get the field test kit? (STEVE HORN).

    Appreciates for any help

    Regards, JEFFREY

    I would say that both questions should be addressed to Steve, the
    Rdb/VMS product manager.

    re .-1

    Andrew is indeed correct that the question of obtaining FT S/W should
    be directed to product management.

    Re .0

    If you can use FT 3.0 then do it. We tried it here and changed
    some minds about Rdb being too slow.

    re. .0 and.1

    Is anyone aware of benchmark results available for V3.0.
    I am particularily interested in the 8550 class machine.
    I am competing against IBM, and am not sure which products will
    be proposed. I am hopeful that RDB will be my best solution.

V3.0 is not announced, so no performance information is yet available.
105.5When?LOMBRD::BARTON_LAFri Apr 22 1988 22:143
    The obvious extension of that question is... when do we expect
    an announcement?
