99.0. "UNIFY/AXEL ????" by WARDER::BRYAN () Mon Mar 21 1988 18:37

    Has anybody heard of the following products -

            UNIFY - a database, probably relational that runs under
                    unix/ultrix ?
            AXEL  - a 4GL for UNIFY.

    We are up against these in a competitive situation and nobody
    here has heard of them.

    Many thanks for any replies

99.1UNIFY is a DCS productKSAHUB::SMITHPMon Mar 21 1988 20:287
    Yes,

    UNIFY is a DCS product and sold buy Digital for Ultrix. Digital
    also proposed Unify as part of a $120M Air Force program last year
    and WON!!!. UNIFY is written in C and runs on most UNIX based O.S.

    Do not know anything about AXEL
99.2Unify Contacts Within DigitalKSAHUB::SMITHPMon Mar 21 1988 20:5220
    I forget to include some Digital contacts.

    UEG has a third party group that brought Unify into the DCS program.
    I believe Haywood Gandy is the DCS admin. for Unify.

    Check the SPD for Unify. I believe the version of Unify included
    in the DCS is one or two versions older than what Unify is shipping
    direct to its customers.

    The Ultrix hotline back east (equal to VMS hotline in Colo Sprgs)
    has one or two people on the phones trained in Unify.

    The Digital Dayton Ohio office has one or two people in the SWS
    unit that actually teach Unify for the Air Force under the
    contract referenced in note 99.1 above. The Program Manager
    for this Air Force contract is Dave McDonnald DTN: 264-4421.
    The Dayton Ohio office number is (513)898-0920

    Good Luck

    You must be referring not to AXEL, but to ACCEL, which is a 4GL product
    sold by Unify Corp. It was introduced in Fall 1985 and there was an
    article in Mini-Micro Systems at that time that described the product.
    ACCEL has SQL and the usual menu, form, report, and programming
    features for application development. I don't think it is integrated
    with any UNIFY (or other company's) products except for the UNIFY
    database manager.
