77.0. "Request for Informix info" by CTRAG::TRAGESER (Creeping Elegance) Fri Feb 26 1988 23:29

My group is about to begin work with a third party who has a UNIX-based
realtime data acquisition system centered around INFORMIX. They are
porting their software to VAX/VMS. Their present sentiment is to
use INFORMIX/VMS but they are willing to consider RDB. We would
like to influence them towards the latter choice.

Does anyone out there have information, technical documentation,
competitive evaluations and/or performance data for the VMS INFORMIX
    product?

    Thanks, Charlie Trageser

I figured, i could post this in the first reference to informix for others.
Cutting the workforce might be cutting worldwide support as well.

Informix - Expects loss from operations; work force of 1,100 is cut by 15%
In the 1987 fourth quarter, the software concern had net income of $2
million on revenue of $13.9 million. It said revenue in the quarter just ended
was $27 million, but that its expenses outpaced its sales gains. Roger J.
Sippi, chairman, said the quarter may include an extraordinary gain from
retiring debt, but that those numbers aren't available yet. The company said
it is cutting back its work force to bring its costs in line with revenue. It
also said it expects to report a profit for all of 1988. In 1987, Informix had
net income of $5.9 million on revenue of $41 million.

H-P AND INFORMIX FORMALIZE JOINT VENTURE

"Firm to Buy Informix Stake and Formalize a Venture"
(The Wall Street Journal, 2/6/91, PP:C6)

Hewlett-Packard said it agreed to acquire as much as 10% of the common stock
of Informix and to formalize a development and marketing relationship with the
software concern. The companies also signed a five-year agreement to jointly
develop, market and sell products. Informix, of Menlo Park, Calif., is
considered the leading supplier of data-base software for computers based on
the UNIX operating system, of which H-P is a major proponent. The companies
will also be jointly developing software that helps automate the process of
writing other software. The Informix stake is valued at about $8 million at
current prices. Terms call for H-P to acquire as much as 5% of the shares in
the open market between April 17, 1991, and Feb. 4, 1992, and another 5%
