73.0. "request to copy notes file" by CREDIT::DREYFUS () Thu Feb 18 1988 23:47

Hi,

I would like to copy the notes file to my local node to review and
extract data. It is much to slow going from my node to BISTRO using
NOTES. I would like to make regular copies of the file.

In order to do this, however, I need the address of the file and
permission to read it. Can you provide this? Thanks.

    Hi,

    I've just made a copy of this notes file in the default DECnet
    directory, so you can
    $ COPY BISTRO::RDB_VMS_COMPETITION.NOTE *
    I'll refresh this copy on an irregular basis.

    I'd rather do that than allow access to the "live" notes file,
    just in case there are people out there who might disregard this
    sound advice from EASYNOTES.LIS:

  PLEASE NOTE:	NEVER COPY a notes notefile or conference, at least not with
  the COPY command, which locks up the file while you are copying it. If you
  must make a copy, use the CONVERT/SHARE command instead. VAX Notes may be
  used in batch, if interactive access is slow.

    And if this still leaves you wondering what EASYNOTES.LIS is:

  The EASYNOTES lists are always available for reference. To keep abreast of
  the changes in the lists, you can either check them from time to time, or
  if that's impractical, get on a distribution list for weekly updates.
  (However, this is not a digest of the content changes in the notefiles
  themselves.)

  To get on the distribution list, send mail to CVG::EASYNOTES. (If CVG::
  is unknown on your system, send to 17942::EASYNOTES.) This is an account
  set up for automatic distribution of EASYNOTES.LIS, not for answering
  questions, however.

    Andrew (moderator) with apologies for not responding to the mail
    message that .0 sent me a while ago.
