59.0. "Reference site" by BMT::KANG () Mon Dec 14 1987 22:43

-< You asked for insurance companies.. >-

    Hello.

Prudential-Bache in New York(199 Water Street) is using
ORACLE to maintain their "Securities Price History database."
Most of the relations are rather "simple" (i.e., not many foreign
keys between tables) but lots of records - about 2 millions.

They are extremely "unhappy" with ORACLE due to the following
    reasons:

       1) Maintenance. Whenever a new version arrives, they have to
          re-link their applications.
       2) In addition to "no AIJ support on VAX Cluster", they
run into "data corruption" too frequently
       3) Performance.

Digital did test-install VAX-11 DBMS to do what ORACLE is doing.
We came up with about 20 times better in speed when a unique
key retrieval comes. Of course, the performance difference
tapers off in retrieving records with a non-key field range for
    non-unique keys.

They are very impressed with VAX-11 DBMS.
Soon, they will make up their mind to decide which one to use.

Going back to your question as to the "reference site."
I wouldn't think they can be a good(?) reference site for ORACLE.
    I don't have Rdb/VMS comparison.
