54.0. "DSRI compliant databases?" by CHFV03::MAMMEN () Thu Dec 03 1987 06:52

    Seem to keep hearing that this or that competitive database is DSRI
    compatible. There was a long discussion about 1 at the Database
    Systems syposium, SMARTSTAR I think.

    Do we have a list of those that are DSRI compatible/have announced
    intent to be so?

    Thanks,

    Dave,

    You could try putting this in the NEWTON::DSRI notesfile, if you
    haven't already.

54.2Databases or 4GL's?AUNTB::BOOTHA career of MISunderstandingThu Dec 03 1987 14:3916
    There is only one Database Management product that I know of that
    is DSRI compliant. That product is InterBase. Their compliance is
    real.
    There are several 4GL's that are DSRI-compliant:
    SMARTSTAR -- Signal Technology, Inc.
    PowerHouse - Cognos Corp.
    Corvision/Application Factory -- Cortex Corp.
    Intouch (I think they are DSRI compliant, or soon will be) -- Touch
    Technologies

    Coming "soon":
    Focus (currently read-only) -- Information Builders, Inc.
    Info-DB+ -- Henco
    Natural (2) -- The 4GL for Software AG's Adabas database.

54.4interface products layered on VAX Rdb/VMSNOVA::FARRELLWed Dec 09 1987 01:03134
    The only "database" which claims to be DSRI-compliant is Interbase.
    Since Digital has not opened the back end of the architecture for
    vendors to do this, it is clear that it would be very difficult
    for anyone to make their product compliant.

    Several months ago, I posted a note listing the "interface" products
    which I knew to be DSRI compliant. Digital has opened the front
    end of the architecture and we encourage, although not enough, other
    DEC and 3rd party products to layer on Rdb. That list, updated and
    enhanced with the replies I got is as follows:

    (any further corrections and additions welcome).
