32.0. "INFO DB+, help?????" by TOWNS::ROBERTS () Thu Sep 17 1987 21:53

    I am working with a large government customer that has the need
    to maintain information in a database and also maintain related
    files in Allin1's WPSPLUS. They need to use WPSPLUS to take advantage
    of many of its WPS features....(ascii files will not work).

    I have not come across an easy way to link Rdb to the document database
    of allin1. I need to associate WPSPLUS documents to individual
    RDB records.

    I have recently heard of a product called INFO DB+ from Henco Software
    that offeres a query language for large text files (ascii, wpsplus,
    word perfect..) They also have what they claim to be relational
    database. It is done using RMS files in conjunction with an active
    data dictionary. (It is not a true relational database... but it
    also sounds to have some very nice features (text capabilities))

    Text searching includes target word searches, wild-card searches,
    proximity searches, phrases searches, and same sentence/paragraph
    searches.

    The product sounds good in the glossy.....but it is supossed to.
    Does anyone have any information on this product. I would like
    to hear both good and bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Everything I have heard about the product is good. Henco is now
    a CMP, and they are moving to Rdb support with INFO DB+. However,
    the product will NOT support WPS documents directly from A1. The
    documents have to be sent to ASCII files for INFO DB+ to pick them
    up. The reason for this is that DEC has refused to release the WPS
    code to Henco. If Henco doesn't know the nature of WPS they cannot
    interface to it.
    Henco has reference sites that are storing in excess of 5 Gb of
    text with no problems. I haven't personally used the product, but
    it seems like a good method for having a 4GL that accesses both
    a regular database and a text database.
    Call Henco. They seem to be quite helpful.

32.4Henco CMP for Legal Office MktDARTS::BICKFORDMon Oct 05 1987 19:583
    Just to qualify Henco's CMP status....they were signed up as a CMP
    specifically for the legal office market, not as a general relational
    database - at least this is my understanding.

That may be the case, but it is not preventing them from including the
DEC CMP logo in their generic database advertising.
