I imagine the reason we have a System 1032 notes conference is because
DIS (Digital's IS group) is using that product for their applications.
Therefore there needs to be a discussion on the best way to use
that product.
As for why they are using 1032 as opposed to our own products, the
claim is that our products do not do the type of work that is needed
for their applications within a reasonable time frame (performance)
and that 1032 does. Just like any other customer, we need to show
them that DIGITAL products are as functional as others and that
we can produce the performance needed for their applications.

29.2 | history and reality | NOVA::BERENSON | Rdb/VMS - Number ONE on VAX | Sun Sep 13 1987 20:52 | 12 |
| Years ago DIS used 1022 on DECsystem-10/20s for much of the inquiry-only
work. As they have moved to VAXen, they have also stayed with the VAX
equivalent of 1022, 1032. They are also using FOCUS and GENisys (an
internal tool) to handle many of these inquiry-only applications.
It turns out that these tools are heavily optimized for the inquiry-only
environment. In other words, they can't handle simultaneous update.
However, the DIS vision is of information centers where the only updates
are made in batch at night. At the moment, products like 1032 handle
this environment rather well. We are working to make sure that Rdb/VMS
handles them as well (or better) in the future.

29.3 | Comparison 1032 <-> RDB needed | MGOI03::KERN | Ora et labora | Thu Jul 21 1988 14:01 | 13 |
| I have a coustomer who currently uses 1022 on a 2060. In a year
or so he is going to change to VAX. He is in the information process
of converting to 1032.
Question:
1. Does a comparison exist between (new) RDB an 1032 so
that we can discuss strength of our product against 1032.
2. Are there any convertion tools available for converting
1022 data on a 2060 to RDB on VAX?
