424.0. "Breaking Bookreader Title " by DEMON::RUHROH::VEZINA () Wed May 08 1991 16:56

Currently, the title of my book appears as

	CDA Technical Overview On-line Tutorial

I want it to appear as:

        CDA Technical Overview
        On-line Tutorial

I tried:

<DEFINE_BOOK_NAME>(BOOK_TITLE\CDA Technical Overview\ On-line Tutorial)

The result:

        CDA Technical Overview
(it basically ignored everything after my second \)

I also tried:

<DEFINE_BOOK_NAME>(BOOK_TITLE\CDA Technical Overview/ On-line Tutorial)

The result:

        CDA Technical Overview/ On-line Tutorial

Do you know a way to break the title?

Thanks,
Kris

You cannot break the title using <define_book_name>. Using a backslash
indicates that you are supplying a 3rd argument to <define_book_name>.
(I didn't think that tag took a 3rd argument and, if not, the tag
trans should have complained but I'm at home and don't have the docs so
I can't check.) A slash is just interpreted as part of the text of the
    2nd argument (the book title).

This is not an oversight (or bug) on the part of DOCUMENT devos.
The <define_book_name> tag can be used anywhere in text that you
want the book title to appear. It would not be appropriate to split
the title onto two or more lines in the middle of a paragraph in a
    chapter.

To get multiple lines on the title page, you must use the actual
title text in the <title> tag:

    <title>(CDA Technical Overview\On-Line Tutorial)

The <DEFINE_BOOKNAME> does take a third (undocumented) argument, which
is why it accepts the text and does nothing with it. It was meant to be
used for something (like <define_symbol> )...

I take it a <line> is also inacceptable within the <title> context,
so there is little you can do in formatting your title

Re .2: So it does -- from the comments to the <define_book_name>
    tag:

*
* <DEFINE_BOOK_NAME>(symbol-name\full-title\short-title)
*
* the full title will be returned by a default <REFERENCE>
* the short title will be returned with \VALUE on <REFERENCE>
* creates a user-defined symbol of type BOOK.
