Could anybody help me for the following : - Using DOCUMENT v1.2b, the Contents text is splitted on several lines, with only 25 characters per line, which is often too short to appear on one line. Note that DECwrite produces the contents with much more characters per line. How can I achieve the same result with DOCUMENT ? - In the same conditions, head1 and head2 are displayed as bold. Is there any possibility to get them as normal ? Note that Decwrite does it as well. Regards, Ren.

1. The contents text is formatted for the width of the navigation window so lines that are longer than 21.5 picas will break onto subsequent lines. This was an intentional design decision to save people the trouble of resizing the window or using the scroll bar to see very long lines of text. 2. Boldfacing of head1 and head2 was another design decision, taken to try to reflect, typographically, the heirarchy of the headers. In VAX DOCUMENT, it is possible to alter these (and other) formatting parameters by creating a new design. (See the Doctype Designer's Guide.) However, note that the V3 Bookreader uses the SVN widget for the TOC and index. SVN's abilities to display formatted text are limited: all TOC entries are displayed on one line and all are boldfaced, regardless of authoring tool used. Mary |
