| Check whether you are using <online_popup> tags around
whatever defines the symbol DOCWS, e.g.,
<online_popup>(figure)
<figure>(Figure One\docws)
...
<endfigure>
<endonline_popup>
Also, check if DOCWS is defined as a symbol for a head in the
preface.
<preface>
...
<head1>(Preface Head\docws)
...
<endpreface>
Let me know if neither of these solve the problem.

409.2 | It's still not working | GUESS::GOLDMAN | | Tue Feb 26 1991 10:06 | 13 |
| I checked the two suggestions in .1.
I wasn't using <online_popup> tags around the example that defined
the symbol DOCWS. The symbol was the symbol name for a formal
example in a chapter. I changed it to see if there was something
mystical about the string DOCWS; that didn't make any difference.
The example is about 2/3 of a page long in hard copy. I put an
<online_chunk> tag in front of it to see if that would make a
difference--no luck. The document still isn't building and the
undefined symbol is whatever I use as the symbol name for this
example.

409.3 | send .sdml file | VAXUUM::UTT | Mary Utt | Tue Feb 26 1991 10:53 | 7 |
| Please send me the chapter.
Also, what version of VAX DOCUMENT are you using?
Thanks,
Mary

409.4 | MAGIC!! | GUESS::GOLDMAN | | Tue Feb 26 1991 11:07 | 12 |
| I was using T2.0-1.
However, I won't need to send you the chapter unless you still want it.
I retyped the line
<example>(Configuration Document\docws)
exactly as it appeared in the .SDML file and deleted the original line.
Strangely enough, it worked this time.
Let me know if you still want the chapter.

409.5 | mystical, indeed | CLOSET::UTT | Mary Utt | Tue Feb 26 1991 15:59 | 5 |
| Guess not, if it's working now (I can't correct an error I can't
reproduce!). If it crops up again, though, send me the offending
file.
