I am a writer for ESDP in Colorado Springs. The project I am involved
in will be our first bookreader output project. I am trying to
determine how to get a bookreader output. I have searched this
conference for some clues, but I can't seem to find any
straight forward procedure.
1. We are running VAX DOCUMENT V1.2-B
2. What design files support Bookreader?
- where can I copy them from?
- doesn't VAX DOCUMENT V1.2-B automatically include Bookreader
support?
- is the bookreader support a separate installation?
- will the current design files supported by Bookreader
be accepted by EDMS?
3. What is the destination parameter (Bookreader)?
4. Will VAX DOCUMENT V2.0 support ANY out-of-the-box design files?
Any help you can give me will be appreciated.
Thanks,
deb copeland

If you are running V1.2B (the Writer's Toolkit), you should have
the online stuff. The release notes for V1.2B document the online
doctypes and destination. See note 270 for pointers to software
and documentation.
Only a few design files are supported for Bookreader output. You
cannot use hardcopy designs with the online destination. VAX DOCUMENT
V2.0 will only support the MILSPEC doctype online in addition to
the designs available for 1.2B.

| 400.2 | EDMS complient/Bookreader compatibility? | CLOSUS::COPELAND | Always in stitches | Thu Jan 24 1991 18:56 | 28 |
Mary,
ONLINE.REFERENCE
ONLINE.HANBOOK
Are these the only supported Bookreader design files at this time?
These design files are not listed on the EDMS complient design file
list.
We do want our documents to be EDMS complient. Can I assume then,
that if I need Bookreader and EDMS complient documents, that I need
to process my files using two different designs?
This is how I see our process taking place.
1. We will code our documents using only global tags when possible.
2. We will use conditionalized ONLINE tags for Bookreader only
when necessary.
3. We will process our files for the two different output types.
In your opinion, do you think this is the logical method to use
at this time?
Thanks for your help,

| 400.3 | Process separately for Bookreader | OLD::UTT | Mary Utt | Fri Jan 25 1991 14:56 | 10 |
"EDMS-compliance" has only to do with PostScript files. The Bookreader
is a different output device: you must process your files twice if you
want both PostScript and Bookreader output.
To process files for the Bookreader, you must use one of the Bookreader
designs and the BOOKREADER destination.
Does this help?
