383.0. "Don't want numbering in a mini-book" by CDROM::DUPREZ () Wed Nov 07 1990 09:30
A look-see of the last 100 or so notes doesn't reveal anything
about this, so:
I'm interested in creating a small online book with no chapter
and section numbering, but cannot figure out how to do so.
(There are no tables, figures, or examples to complicate the
matter.)
Is the <DOCUMENT_ATTRIBUTES> tag supported in ONLINE? I've
tried using it, but to no avail, and I'm not enough of a
DOCUMENT user to know what the alternatives are.
Thanks in advance for any help.

383.1 | try <unnumbered_heads> | OLD::UTT | Mary Utt | Wed Nov 07 1990 09:57 | 4 |
| You can use <unnumbered_heads> (on DOCUMENT V1.2B), but it will
number the chapters.

383.2 | omit <chapter> tags | OLD::UTT | Mary Utt | Wed Nov 07 1990 13:49 | 7 |
| Graphic Services also suggests that you use <unnumbered_heads> and
simply omit the <chapter> tags. They have done this for installation
guides in the past. For hardcopy output, <page> would allow you to
start each <head1> on a new page; for online output <head1>s start
new topics by default.

383.3 | try CUP doctypes | VIA::EPPES | I'm not making this up, you know | Thu Nov 08 1990 14:49 | 6 |
| The new CUP doctypes allow you to have unnumbered heads - not sure about
chapters. See the 4TRACK::CUP_DOCTYPES for information about installing
these doctypes (which include an online doctype). Note 2 in that conference
has the kit info.
