311.0. "Problems with monospaced font" by POBBLE::PASCIUTA (Adrian Pasciuta) Wed Apr 04 1990 08:10

I am working on a set of documents that require inline code examples
(examples that appear as part of the main text) to appear in monospaced
(Courier) type.

Using the SOFTWARE.GUIDE doctype, displayed code examples appear in
Courier, but inline examples coded using <CODE_EXAMPLE>(xxxxx) appear in
italics.

I have defined my own tag to make inline examples appear in Courier as
follows:

<DEFINE>(CX<EOL>
\|^B^Tcodexamplefont $1^E&\1\1)

This works fine for hardcopy output, but the results are not so good for
online. The text does appear in Courier, but is not aligned properly on
the display. It seems that the online styles are not able to cope with
proportional and monospaced font metrics used on the same line of output.

Is it possible to get around this problem?

Thanks,
Adrian

You're absolutely right Mike. I use a 100 DPI monitor. The book looks OK
when displayed on a 75 DPI monitor.
