300.0. "GLOSSARY WITHOUT ITS TERMS" by HKFINN::TAYLOR () Tue Mar 20 1990 10:12

    			Glossary

    Is it normal for the first page (or screen) to show the word Glossary only
    and the second page will start the glossary terms?

    The word glossary looks so lost all by itself and I have been asked
    if this can be fix or is it just the way it is.

Put a paragraph of introductory text before the glossary entries begin.

    It's on my (very long) list of things to do to *not* start the glossary
    entries on a new page.

300.3"Is this workaround still valid?"STAR::MISSNG::DECOURCEYbjFri Mar 30 1990 16:0136
Hi, Di -- Funny you should be asking about this. I was just
investigating the very same question for the VMS books that use
Glossaries.

I remembered that the PVAX1 books used a workaround and I got the
coding from Bev Oliphant. As you recall, Di, those PVAX1 books didn't
break when we used the coding below.

I'd like to ask Mary if the solution below is still ok.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, Mary, is this ok to use? --

In the GLOSSARY file (NOT in the PROFILE), start the file with this
tag:

<SET_ONLINE_TOPIC>(Master)

It gives nice "ranges" in the TOC for the user to click on. The first
entries in the range appear after a click.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I see, however, that GUIDE TO PRODUCING ONLINE DOCUMENTATION (Oct '89)
says this:

     For a manual with normal chapters and sections ...
     <set_online_topic>(master) [in the PROFILE] is neither required nor
     recommended.

What we are asking is ... is it okay to use it in the Glossary file?

300.4Yes, it's OKRAGMOP::UTTFri Mar 30 1990 17:188
    Yes, it is OK to use the <set_online_topic>(master) tag in the
    glossary file (or in the profile). I have no idea why the "Guide
    to Producing Online Documentation" says not to. (You'd have
    to ask the author of that document.) If there is a problem with
    the use of this tag (other than the one noted in .0), I don't
    know about it.
