291.0. "Fatal error on [ Device Conversion ] helppp!!!" by DUGGAN::MORIN () Wed Mar 07 1990 13:02

    I am having problem in trying to compile an SDML file into bookreader
    format.  I get to the [D e v i c e   C o n v e r s i o n ]... portion
    and get a SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=00, virtual
    address=00000000, PC=0801806B, PSL=00000002 error.

    I installed the latest version (1.2B) of Document and are running VMS
    5.3. I had an older version of Document on the system (1.0) and
    installed this newer version over that. Is there some logical or
    definition that has to be removed, added or changed ?*($^^^. The
    installation seemed to go ok but I'm sure that does not mean everything
    is alive and well. Any help and/or suggestion would be greatly
    appreciated.

    thanks,
    Kurt...

Please post your log file and a pointer to ALL 3 of your DVI files and I'll
take a look

    I have only 2 DVI files that I can see. I placed these files and the
    LIS file in the following location ( WELTER::DUA3:[DOCUMENT] ) and
    should be world read and executable. The address for WELTER is 21.288
    just in case you need to define it. Let me know if you need additional
    information.

291.3Footnotes strike againMJFITZ::FITZELLput nifty saying hereThu Mar 08 1990 13:439
Kurt,
	The problem is a \special in the dvi file that is missing an argument.
 Theoretically this should never happen but you can't trust anybody nowadays.
 There is a warning about possible problem with footnotes in your .lis file that
 is more than likely the culprit. You can check with Wayne Grant (CLOSET::GRANT)
 about known problems with footnotes if nothing is obvious. This will be fixed
 in the future to at least exit gracefully.

291.4Thanks for your help. It worked fine.DUGGAN::MORINThu Mar 08 1990 15:327
    Mike,

    Thank you for your quick reply and timely fix. I commented out the
    footnote and it completed successfully.

    thanks,

I also have an online build that fails at this stage. The relevant parameters
are:

[ D e v i c e    C o n v e r s i o n ]...
%DVC-I-INCLUDING, including input file:
   PSI_WDD_ROUT_CONTENTS
%SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=05, virtual address=FFFFFFFF, PC
=0801806B, PSL=00000002

The DVI and log files are in MARVIN::DISK$USER1:[WALSH.NCL]. I'd be most
grateful if someone could figure out what is causing the problem.

291.7Fixed in next releaseMJFITZ::FITZELLput nifty saying hereThu Mar 29 1990 10:276
    This problem was/is in the converter and will be fixed in the next
    release. <online_title> strings of more than 48 characters were not
    being handled properly. The interim solution is to keep the
    <online_title>argument to 48 characters or less.
