258.1 | fixed in next release | CLOSET::UTT | | Tue Jan 16 1990 07:52 | 14 |
| Yes, there is a bug in the Bookreader such that if *none* of the
license PAKs specified in the LMF tags are not installed on the system,
the Bookreader will go into an infinite loop. For example, if you have
specified FORTRAN and BOOKBROWSER in your <LMF_PRODUCT> and
<LMF_ALTNAME> tags, and neither license is installed on the system
you are running Bookreader on, Bookreader will loop.
As long as the Bookreader can make one match, it's fine. That's why
installing the Bookbrowser PAK is so important at the moment (it's a
good idea anyway).
The bug will be fixed for next release of the Bookreader -- 5.4.

| Is there anything else that could cause this? I am getting the same scenario,
but my system manager tells me that the BOOKBROWSER PAK is there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,

258.3 | not that we know of... | RAGMOP::UTT | | Fri Mar 09 1990 06:53 | 7 |
| Re.-1: That's the only scenario we know of that results in a loop.
Have your system manager double check about the BOOKBROWSER PAK
installation. If it is indeed there and the Bookreader still hangs,
let us know. (Post a note also in the BOOKREADER notes conference
on BULOVA.)

Check the book to see what LMF info is in it (using the BOOKINFO utility
that comes with the 1.2B kit). Perhaps it doesn't call out the BOOKBROWSER
license.
If you still can't figure it out, send me a pointer to the book.

258.5 | I've tried a bunch of things and can figure out nothing... | WJCUST::MARSAN | Rick Marsan (Doctor Flash) | Fri Mar 09 1990 12:40 | 30 |
| Thanks for your quick reply, Joe. I have tried everything I could think of and
what has been suggested herein but cannot get anywhere with this. Here is the
BookInfo report on what I have created:
Title: "Common Scheduling Technical Reference Manual"
Symbolic Name: "CS_Title"
Build Date: 9-MAR-1990 10:31:33.99
Structure Level: 2.0
LMF Information
Product Name: "CS"
Producer: "DEC/USM/IBC/TSG/REM"
Date: none
Version: 0
LMF Alternate Product Names:
CDDPLUS
LSE
RDB
BOOKBROWSER
Book contains the following directories:
Contents
Index
I put the extra LMF alternative product names in there in the hopes that I could
get something to pick up. I will send you mail as to where the files in
question are. Thanks for any and all help.
Sincerely,
Rick Marsan

258.6 | Producer MUST be DEC | WJCUST::MARSAN | Rick Marsan (Doctor Flash) | Fri Mar 09 1990 17:10 | 10 |
| I have solved the mystery!!! I was not using a producer of DEC which
is the producer listed on BOOKBROWSER. Someone was helpfull enough to
tell me to do a SHOW LICENSES, which I did and then realised that that
might have made the difference. I am thankful to say it did!!!
Thank you all for all of your help and keep in mind that the Producer
has to be DEC for now...
Sincerely,
Rick Marsan

258.7 | fixed in 5.4 | STAR::KRAETSCH | NeXt Window Please | Mon Mar 12 1990 09:41 | 6 |
| As Rick discovered the hard way, the producer MUST be DEC.
This bug is fixed in VMS 5.4 as Mary pointed our earlier, and you will
get an error message to this effect.
