245.0. "Any artwork help available?" by ATSE::KNIGHT (Fred Knight) Tue Jan 02 1990 16:50

Has any progress been made with art conversion tools? I've been using
PSART to convert line art drawings for the .PS output. Is there anyway
to get nice artwork into bookreader. For now, I've started using RAGS to
import the .ART files, and write them back out in .RAGS format. Then I
atleast get something into bookreader....but, it isn't very pretty.

The only thing I've heard up till now, is reenter it all. But, with
120-150 line art pictures, and both .PS and .BOOKREADER files I'd prefer
to have one source file. The book is an "internal data structures" manual.
And you know engineers, they are changing the layout of data structures all
  the time.

245.1No easy way to convert from .PS to BookreaderIOSG::GEEWhat can be, will beWed Jan 03 1990 05:0713
    Hi,

When you say you would rather have one source file, do you mean for use
by both PostScript and Bookreader? If so, I do not think that this is
possible; you must create a file for each destination.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no way to convert from .PS to
Bookreader; you must create the artwork from scratch using RAGS, or
some other tool which supports output for the bookreader.

    Hope this helps.

245.2there *are* ways to convert...VAXUUM::UTTWed Jan 03 1990 07:3711
The Bookreader does not currently display PS graphics, only RAGS
    metafiles and FSE bitmaps.

The only way (currently) to maintain the same source file for
both PS and Bookreader output is with RAGS. This doesn't do
you any good since you are starting with line art.

There are, however, some ways of converting PS graphics to FSE
bitmaps. See notes 50.2 - .6 and note 94 for more information.

Yes, I know. Check out <DATA_STRUCTURE> tags. You may find them quite
useful, particularly if your engineering group uses SDL. They are
described in Chapter 3 of the "Notes for DEC Internal VAX DOCUMENT
Users", which you can get from:
