    Hi - Can you give me a clue what this error means, or where to look?

    The problem is with <footnote> again, isn't it.  I'm testing this out
    now....

    Nope, the problem is not caused by the <footnote> tags this time.  
    
    Where else should I look?  

    The _semiformal_ reference has to do with <online_popup>s, in this
    case your 44th online popup. The first line of defense is to check
    that this (and all other) online popups are properly coded. If it
    is, send me the SDML file that this online popup is in.

    The problem ended up being <online_popup> tags around a formal table.
    We will be checking for this in the near future.
