Just to let you all know: We are currently planning (and working toward) integrating the online bookbuilding tools into the VAX DOCUMENT V1.2B (internal) release. This means that you will no longer need to install a separate saveset for the online tools, no longer need to run a .COM file to define logicals, no longer need to include a symbols file so your hardcopy builds don't break, and many of the other petty annoyances you've all put up with so long. Like the previous baselevel of the only tools (note 64.12), this release will build only Bookreader V2 books. If you are still running Bookreader V1, the books built under this baselevel will not be readable. (The V2 Bookreader, however, can read *both* V1 and V2 books.) The V1.2B kit should be available in the next few weeks. It will be announced in the VAX DOCUMENT notes conference (in a reply to Note 2) and here (in a reply to note 64). Questions and comments can be posted as a reply to this note. For some more information, see also the DOCUMENT notes conference (on CLOSET), note 2638. Merry Christmas! Mary

<<< W7_:[NOTES$LIBRARY]DOCUMENT.NOTE;1 >>> -< VAX DOCUMENT problems and questions >- ================================================================================ Note 2638.15 V1.2-B? 15 of 15 VAXUUM::DEVRIES "By their notes ye shall know them" 32 lines 2-JAN-1990 12:27 -< update: the consolidated approach won out >- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Much has been discussed since this release warning appeared a month ago. Many decisions have been made, and much work has been done. Unfortunately, we were not able to make this a Christmas present. But it will be available soon, and will be announced loudly in this notesfile, among other places. Here's the gist of it: VAX DOCUMENT Writer's Toolkit V1.0 (internal use only) will contain - VAX DOCUMENT V1.2-B, including + many bug fixes + only one new feature: a qualifier to print out the blank pages required for two-sided PostScript printing. + a new version of the online bookbuilding tools. - RAGS + a stable version - UTOX + a stable version You'll be able to choose to install each of these products separately. And, as usual, if you install VAX DOCUMENT, you'll be able to choose which devices you want to install support for. If you don't want to copy all the savesets at once, there will also be a program you can run that will ask which products and devices you want, and then will submit a job to copy only the savesets required for those options. Further details will be available when the kit is ready. Mark | |||||
