I'm trying to build a book and it's aborting for some reason....I'm

A quick guess is that you forgot the <contents_file> tag in the
front_matter but specified /contents on the command line. Which would
build a contents file but not include it in the bookbuild.

| 203.3 | /output doesn't work | RUTILE::SERRES | Wed Oct 04 1989 10:37 | 6 | |
Please could someone tell me why I can't use the /output qualifier
when creating bookreader files?
My command line looks like the following:
doc/cont/noprint/lis a.sdml online.r bookreader /output=b.decw$book

My first reply to -.1 wasn't totally correct. What I should have said was that in the current version of the Bookbuilding Tools, the /OUTPUT qualifier isn't supported. The reason for this is that we aren't a real 'part' of VAX DOCUMENT yet and that's where that support comes from. In the soon to be released next version, we've added that functionality to the command line. Wayne
| 203.5 | Error writing to output file... | MUNLEG::GOETZ | Ulrike Goetz, UI Specialist LEG Munich, Germany | Thu Mar 08 1990 04:03 | 97 |
Hi there,
when formatting the DECdecision Overview for the Bookreader,
I always get the same error message:
%DVC-I-INCLUDING, including input file:
AA-PATJA-TE_INDEX
BOOKWRITER ERROR--The following symbols are undefined:
pgid = 24, offset = 714, symbol = '_DECW_SEMIFORMAL_2'
%DVC-E-OUTPUTFAIL, error writing to output file
-DVC-I-INPUTFILE, input file is:
DECDECISION:[DECISION.CONTROL.DOCU.BUILD]AA-PATJA-TE.DVI_BOOKREADER;
-DVC-I-ONPAGE, on page [9]
%DVC-E-BOOKABORT, aborting run -- book
DECDECISION:[DECISION.CONTROL.DOCU.BUILD
]AA-PATJA-TE not created
This appeared when formatting the .DVI_BOOKREADER file with
$document/notag/notex online.ref bookreader.
I enclose the entire .LIS file below. It might be of interest
that I was already able to format the files...
Can anybody help?

| 203.6 | check 2nd <online_popup> | CLOSET::UTT | Thu Mar 08 1990 06:12 | 10 | |
The undefined-symbol problem (_decw_semiformal_2) means there is some
problem with the coding of <online_popup>/<endonline_popup>,
specifically the second one in your document. Check that you have
matching <online_popup> and <endonline_popup> and that you have
not coded the popup around a formal element. If you cannot find
the problem, send me the file.
We will look into the second problem.

I'm making an educated guess that the logfile in .5 is slightly edited. The undefined symbols are caught during the book closing routine when the final writes are being done to the file. So you get the undefined symbol message from the bookwriter routines and they pass back an error to the device converter which is the outputfail message. Once the undefined symbol is resolved the resultant output fail should go away. Mike
