Is there any way to figure out where the page numbers reported by the text formatter really are? For example, I got four of these from a single bookbuild: %TEX-I-INFO, The table, as specified, is too wide for the page. - on page [3411] How can I find out which table that is? In some future version, would it be possible for the TEX-I messages to do what the TAG-I messages do, and tell you what line of what file they're in? Or at least give some context, such as (in this case) the title of the table? Pilar. PS -- Another gripe about error messages: the "aborting, book not built" messages are not included in the /LIST file. I wish they were.

Internally, to TeX, 'chunks' are denoted by page ejects. (That's why the page numbers reported are so much higher for online books: if every paragraph is a 'chunk', that's a lot of pages, from TeX's point of view.) It's difficult to tell exactly where the page is with any precision. However, if TeX reports that there are 3500 pages total in the book and the tex-i-info message references page 3411, you know it's a table near the end of the book. So you can get some idea of the whereabouts of the offending text. We will be looking into improving error messages in the future. Mary |
