188.0. "<REFERENCE> (blah\TEXT) in a <TABLE_UNIT> coming out as \FULL ?" by SIEVAX::WATSON (When the going gets weird...) Wed Aug 16 1989 11:05

I seem to have a problem with the <reference> tag and the bookreader output
format. Within a table, I have the following...

<TABLE_unit>
<table_row>(Long\astadr \Address of <reference>(Event_Ast\text) Routine
                        \<reference>(Event_Ast\value))
<table_row>(Long\astprm \<reference>(Event_Ast\text) Parameter)
<ENDTABLE_unit>

	...but the results are as if I had said...

<TABLE_unit>
<table_row>(Long\astadr \Address of <reference>(Event_Ast\full) Routine
                        \<reference>(Event_Ast\value))
<table_row>(Long\astprm \<reference>(Event_Ast\full) Parameter)
<ENDTABLE_unit>

	...with the full "Section n.n.n, blah" appearing.

Is this a known restriction ?
Is there something I have omited to do ?
Is there a work-around ?

Any help greatly received

    That's a feature, not a bug :-) In the V1.0 Bookreader, we create
    hotspots using TeX hboxes, which are not permitted to break across
    lines. So a long line of text (a header, for example) in a hotspot is
    likely to run far past the right margin and look really ugly. 'Section
    n.n.n' seldom, if ever, creates a problem at the right margin, so we
    override the \text argument with the behavior of the \full argument
    (which gives you the text that you wanted and allows us to create a
    reasonable hotspot). Bookreader V2 creates hotspots differently and
    will allow them to break across lines, so this restriction will be
    lifted in the future.
