There is an online indexing bug in the online bookbuilding tools that run under VAX DOCUMENT T1.2. (I don't believe this is a problem for V1.1.) The problem is with index entries that point to multiple topics. In this case, the Bookreader displays a menu of section titles that you can select. With books built under T1.2, blank lines appear between the section titles; the blanks are 'hot' and clicking on one of them causes the Bookreader to ACCVIO. I have a fix for this problem, which will be in the next baselevel of the online bookbuilding tools, due out in June. If you need to solve this problem sooner than that (you are, say, building a book for an upcoming CD release), send me mail and I will provide the fix. Anyone building books under T1.2 for the July CD should check their indexes for this problem asap. The books will need to be rebuilt using the indexing fix. Thanks to Nina Eppes for finding this problem and enduring 11th hour re-builds with patience and good humor. Mary

Actually, it was a Spit Brook Graphic Services proofreader who first discovered the problem. I just followed up on it (and followed up on it, and followed up on it.........!). P.S.S. > The problem is with index entries that point to multiple topics. In > this case, the Bookreader displays a menu of section titles that you > can select. My problem was that just clicking on these index entries caused the Bookreader to ACCVIO. I didn't even get a pop-up menu. The pop-up menu showed up only when I built just a couple of chapters (and then the ACCVIO on the blank line happened). So if you get an ACCVIO when you click on an index entry, it's the same problem.
140.2 | Same bug? different symptoms | AITG::ISEN | Joyce, 291-8230 DLB5-2 | Thu Jun 08 1989 14:02 | 9 |
Is this the same bug? When I double click on an index entry (that I know has two page references), the menu of section titles appears and disappears before I can read it. I can't get far enough to experience the ACCVIO described in the base note. The same behavior occurs if I single click on the index entry and choose Topic from the View pull-down menu.

No, that sounds like a different bug. Send me the sdml files with the multiple entries and I'll take a look at it. Mary

This is a Bookreader bug. Joyce is entering a QAR. To work around it, click on the selected entry instead of using the pulldown menu. joe |
