122.0. "Runaway argument ... \topichunk" by LISTNH::SIMONS (Al Simons 381-2187) Tue May 02 1989 15:43

    An input file where the symbol for a topic is preceded by a carriage
    return will foul up the TeX converter. For instance, the following
    source:

<front_matter>
<title_page>
<title>(Test)
<endtitle_page>
<contents_file>
<endfront_matter>

<comment>(Note the next two lines!)
<head1>(Frammitz\
foo)

<p>
a

    Will result in output similar to the following (this is actually from a
    different output file, the source above is the reduction of the source
    that produced this listing...)

%TEX-W-RUNAWAY, Runaway 'argument'
%TEX-I-SHOWTOKEN, '{'
%TEX-W-EOP, Paragraph ended before the following completed:
-TEX-W-DURING, Error occurred during a '\topichunk'
-TEX-W-MISSINGRBRACE, Possible missing '}'
%TEX-I-SHOWCONTEXT, '                   \par '
%TEX-I-LINE, Error occurred on or around line number: 1576
%TEX-I-FILENAME, 'LISTNH$DUA1:[SIMONS.APAMEM]ARUS_FACILITY_PROFILE.TEX;2'
-TEX-I-ONPAGE, on page [42]

%TEX-W-IGNORED, Extra '}' ignored
%TEX-I-LINE, Error occurred on or around line number: 1578
%TEX-I-SHOWCONTEXT, '}'
%TEX-I-SHOWCONTEXT, ' %'

    My request: either catch this in the tag translator and give me an
    error I can work with, or produce something TeX can swallow.

    Thanks alot,
    -Al

    This is a DOCUMENT bug and is on the list to be fixed in (probably)
    V2.0 of DOCUMENT. This problem, and its workaround, is documented
    in Coding Documentation Source Files for the DECwindows Bookreader,
    page xi under Known Problems.

    Thanks, and sorry for the superfluous interrupt, Mary.

    I had tried, but the online version of Coding ... Bookreader has not
    TOC or Index entry for known problems. Just a thought for a future
    revision; it would have helped greatly.

    Yes, I have it on my list to clean up the preface act with symbols
    and TOC entries. You're right, I *could* index known problems and
    will do so next time I update that doc (which I'm afraid I throw
    together pretty (too?) quickly at the least minute).

    Thanks,

    Mary
