I have built this book many times before just fine.  The only thing I changed
this time was to use <REFERENCE> tags in the preface so the list of book
chapters would be hot spots.  Each chapter and the glossary use the symbols. 
When I tried to build the book this time, I didn't get any errors about not
being able to resolve the symbol references.  Instead, I got an error way down
in the device conversion section saying that the symbol GLOSSARY is undefined. 
The symbol is indeed defined (or I would have gotten an error in the tag
translation section) and I don't really know where to start looking for
answers.  

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

    This is a bug: the symbol in the <glossary> tag wasn't being handled
    properly (in fact, it wasn't being handled at all). This will be
    fixed in the next release of the bookbuilding tools.
