AVAILABILITY
The VMS DECwindows Online Documentation set for Field Test
2 UPDATE is now available for your use. Note that this kit
contains pre-release documentation and is therefore is DIG-
ITAL CONFIDENTIAL. The contents of this kit should not be
distributed or shown to non-DIGITAL employees without the
express written consent of VMS product management.
The FT2 Update online documentation kit contains field test
versions of the online manuals that will be submitted to
the SDC at the end of this calendar year. You can read these
manuals using the DECwindows Bookreader contained in the
VMS DECwindows FT2 Update software kit (DECWFT051).

KIT CONTENTS
The FT2 Update online documentation savesets and a copy of
this cover letter are available in the newly-created di-
rectory:
BULOVA::DECW$PUBLIC:[DOCUMENTATION.FT2UPD_ONLINE]
NOTE
The FT2 Update online documentation files are readable
only with the FT2 Update Bookreader. Any version of
the Bookreader prior to FT2 Update (including BL11)
will not read the FT2 Update files; any version of
the online documentation files prior to FT2 Update
will not be read by the FT2 Update Bookreader.
These savesets are also available from other locations on
the network. Please consult the DECWINDOWS notes file on
node BULOVA for more details about alternate kit locations.

KIT INSTALLATION
Prior to installing the online documentation savesets, you
must define the logical name DECW$BOOK, indicating the lo-
cation from which the Bookreader will access the online man-
uals. By default, the Bookreader will look for these files
in the directory named SYS$SYSROOT:[DECW$BOOK]. If you wish
to store the online documentation files in another direc-
tory, you must redefine the logical name DECW$BOOK to point
to that new location. For example, to store the online doc-
umentation in the directory SYS$COMMON:[DECW$BOOK], enter
the command
$ DEFINE DECW$BOOK SYS$COMMON:[DECW$BOOK]
The Bookreader software now groups books into shelves and
libraries for more efficient navigation through large col-
lections of online manuals. The FT2 Update installation pro-
cedure creates the required library file and installs the
FT2 Update online documentation files. The FT2 Update on-
line documentation kit must be installed prior to using the
FT2 Update Bookreader software.
The online documentation saveset should be installed us-
ing the standard VMSINSTAL procedure. To begin the instal-
lation procedure, enter the command
$ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL DECWBKFT2UPD000 device-name
where device-name is the device from which you are load-
ing the savesets.
You may install all of the manuals, or select each manual
individually, as prompted by the installation procedure.
You will be asked to verify the definition of the logical
name DECW$BOOK before the procedure copies any savesets to
the target directory. The installation procedure will set
up the Bookreader library file and the online documenta-
tion files in the DECW$BOOK directory currently defined on
your system.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Once again remember, this project and this documentation
are highly DIGITAL CONFIDENTIAL. Do not discuss the con-
tents of the field test or any of the specifications with
people outside the company.
