28.0. "Figure Titles" by PANAMA::GILLIAM () Mon Nov 14 1988 14:01

Hi,
I've noticed that titles of formal figures appear in two places---in window
title bar and below in the graphics image area. Isn't this redundant?

Yes, it is redundant. Unfortunately, at the moment, due to the way
the text formatter passes title information to the Bookreader (for
the window title bar), there is no good way around this. We hope to
implement a better mechanism for window title bar titles in the
future.

Two places? My figure (and example and table) captions appear in *three*
places! Is this a result of the new baselevel?

*Three* places? What is the third?

Thanks,

RE .3 - I'll try to illustrate how my three captions appear:

+---+----------------------------------------------+
|\/ | Figure 1-1: The Mumbledyfratz Thingmabob |
+---+----------------------------------------------+
Control
+--------------------------------------------------+
| FIGURE 1-1: THE MUMBLEDYFRATZ THINGMABOB | <- actually appears
+--------------------------------------------------+ in big font

Figure 1-1: The Mumbledyfratz Thingmabob

the figure
.
.
.

We're running VMS 5.1 (SDC), DOCUMENT V1.1, and the latest baselevel of
the online bookbuilding tools.

The topmost figure title is actually the name of the window.

The next figure title (in the big font) is the
online running head. (I forget the technical term
for online running head.)

The next (lowermost) figure title is the figure title.

Oh... and because the figure title is the name of the
window it also appears as the window icon name
(yes, a 4th time!) in the Icon Box.

Ah. This seems unnecessary to me, and it looks particularly odd with
popups resulting from <online_popup> because it says, simply, FIGURE. Is
it possible to do away with these "online running heads" for popups?
It really is overkill...
