18.0. "Can LMF be used to protect books?" by CDROM::JAGGER () Thu Oct 13 1988 10:18
We need some information. We have heard rumors that it is possible
to use some sort of tag in the SDML file that allows for protection of
the books using the LMF. Specifically the tag would force a lookup in
the loaded license table. Is there such a tag? Also how could we protect
books using LMF? I need to know ASAP because I have been telling people,
that to my knowledge the version of the bookreader, that will be shipped
with V1 of DECwindows does not have/support such functionality. Also,
I have not seen a version/baselevel of the online bookbuilding tools
that currently support a mechanism for including a <License> tag.
Others in my group have been telling me otherwise, but they did not know
how to implement this "new" protection.
Can you clarify this?
Also, if it is true that LMF is/will be used? what modifications must be made
to .SDML files, and what versions/baselevels are needed to impliment this?
thanks

| VMS engineering is developing a utility that will insert the LMF
information in the DECW$BOOK files as part of the final production
process. This seemed to us to be a less error-prone solution than
using an SDML tag.
