The ONLINE cleanup procedure (ONLINE_CLEANUP.COM) is an unsupported tool developed locally for preparing SDML files for ONLINE doctype processing. The procedure is reliable *IF* you have coded your files in a manner that is compatible with the specifications used to build the procedure. The tool provides several functions that are critical to ONLINE processing: It automatically generates symbols for section head tags. It automatically generates <FIGURE_FILE> tags. It indicates which coded paragraph tags <P> are incompatible with ONLINE processing. And it does all of this in less than a minute. Remember that the procedure makes certain assumptions about how you coded the file. For example, <P> tags must be located at the beginning of code lines. Serious problems occur if you code <P> tags at the end of a line. Also, tags and their related arguments must be on one line. File truncation can occur when tags and arguments are on separate lines. This procedure was recently updated and now allows you to process the same book more than once. The previous version of this procedure produced unexpected results if you processed the same book more than once. If you must run the procedure again on the same book, check the copyright date. The copyright date must be OCTOBER 1988 or later in the version that allows multiple processing of the same book. You can access it in the following directory: BULOVA::DOCD$:[ONLINE]ONLINE_CLEANUP.COM To run the process, enter the following command: $ @ONLINE_CLEANUP full-profile-spec source-file-directory

Hi,
yesterday I tried to run Online_Cleanup for the DECwindows User's
Guide, but it would not process completely. I am including the LOG file
I got, hoping that there is still somebody out there maintaining this
tool that could be very useful for our LEG. Or, if not, maybe somebody
else had similar experiences and can give me a hint on how to proceed?
(Thanks to Wayne and Mary who made it possible for me to answer here in
the first place!)
Regards from the heart of Bavaria - Munich/Germany
/Ingrid
