For a couple of years now we've had a proposal to create what some of us UK-Edu (ooops - LS) types refer to as a 'Generic Gucko', i.e. a non-language specific version of the Utilizing OpenVMS Features course. (If this isn't proof of the cyclic nature of the universe, I don't know what is...) Anyway, this has never been funded and (surprise, surprise!) isn't funded again this year. Keith Shone, with typical British fortitude, has gone ahead and created such a course anyway. It's in Powerpoint (with some Word bits). I'm considering adopting this as the 'Corporate' standard course and retiring all the language-specific versions. The files are available for review in: MUGGZY::DKA100:[GUCKO] Directory DKA100:[GUCKO] 9772ABOU.PPT;1 9772CALL.PPT;1 9772CMOP.PPT;1 9772COMM.PPT;1 9772CONT.DOC;1 9772COPY.DOC;1 9772DEVC.PPT;1 9772FILE.PPT;1 9772FRNT.DOC;1 9772HAND.PPT;1 9772PROG.PPT;1 9772SHAR.PPT;1 9772SYNC.PPT;1 READ-ME.1ST;1 The READ-ME.1ST;1 has some explanation and notes on how to print it. Please review the materials and let me have feedback on the idea in general and the materials specifically. Cheers, Andy

Please note that there are some omissions and one or two errors that _I_ know about. I'm working from memory as I'm on-site just now but... Omissions: the module on creating and managing other processes - 9772CMOP.PPT. I intend to add to the relevant notes page some details of deductible, non-deductible and pooled resources. Several courses recently have asked about these. While they are explained in the write up of SYS$CREPRC why not place them in the materials. Errors: In the sharing code and data module - 9772SHAR.PPT - the piece on global sections states that sections can/cannot be shared across systems - two particular slides make mention of this. I am deleting these references since neither global or private sections can be shared outside a processor unless the processor is one of several sharing the SAME memory. There will also be an index to these materials, prepared using Microsoft Word. Don't hold your breath but I expect to do that before the end of this calendar year. On a personal note - welcome back Andy, nay welcome home! -- Keith

The index for these materials will NOT be ready before the end of this calendar year - 1994. -- Keith

Keith: I am very interested in this course for implementation in the US. I will watch here for updates on your progress. I think it's great and our instructors are looking forward to it also. Regards. |
