33.1 | Nice very nice - but why use the old HW | COPCLU::SVENDSEN | | Thu Jan 24 1991 08:47 | 17 |
| Review RA0296: system upstart.
Is there any sensible explanation for using the old 7xx series
processors in this chapter?? This totally discredits the whole chapter,
that otherwise is excellent. It is elsewise just what I needed when I
took sys mgr 1, details and a sensible flow for the chapter, that
enables the teacher to supply the structure.
The examples are good, and could be basis for teaching this without
access to a machine (should dire need arise). I particulary like the
tables - they are good and give quick access to the relevant
information.

33.2 | UK - more ancient H/W! | UKEDU::SHONE | Keith Shone @RKA 830-4074 | Mon Jan 28 1991 03:50 | 9 |
| This section is fine - I'm not an operator or system manager but it all
makes sense!
Ancient hardware again...
Some nits:
Page 11-19a "The contents is totally..." should be "The contents are
totally..."

33.3 | I hate hardware pictures... | SUPER::REGNELL | Smile!--Payback is a MOTHER! | Mon Jan 28 1991 20:17 | 27 |

For lack of a better place to answer all the HARDWARE comments...
Our current course of action calls for the elimination of ALL
hardware art ANCIENT or OTHERWISE...
These were in here because they fall out in the first round...
but we intend to talk about the conecpt of PRINTERs without
picturing any.
Reason:
As you have pointed out...it is impossible to keep the pictures
up to date,...and eveybody has different hardware.
Solution:
Get thepictures our of software courses and let the hardware courses
figure out what to do about them...[grin]. ACtually there was
some conversation ahile back about a separate hardware book that would
be maintained separately from courses....Andy...any more on that
idea?
Comments about removing hardware pictures? Going, going, gone?

33.4 | Position of this module | TEACH::CHUCK | | Mon Apr 20 1992 14:38 | 3 |
| I teach this module first. Doing it this way avoids a lot of questions
about the hardware and things like "What is a node?" when we cover file
specs. It lets mod 1-9 flow better.

Intertesting thought. It is "11" because in the first go-round,
things sort of got segregated into "core" and "operator".
But there is no technical reason why this chapter could not
go first.
