We have experienced some problems on the RA82 system disk on FUTURS. VAXSim Plus detected these errors, and advised FS to swap the HDA. This was done yesterday evening, during the backups. However, at least one file was corrupted during the backup/restore to a different disk - this affected SET PASSWORD commands. A side affecxt is that the password history file is now the same as on CURRNT. We have corrected this problem, and are checking the rest of the system disk for possible data corruptions. This may take several hours.... Please notify us on x 2657 if you notice any data corruptions, or incorrect execution of commands on FUTURS. An update will be posted here when we have one, possibly later today, or first thing Monday morning. Peter.

Subject: UA: FUTURS SYSTEM DISK IS CORRUPT - IMPORTANT
As you may be aware, we have experienced some disk problems on FUTURS
over the last fewdays.
The effect of this is that the existing system disk has many file and
image corruptions. It is impractical to attempt to correct these errors,
and so we will revert back to the last full backup, made on the 5th
September.
Field Service are preparing a new system disk at the moment, and the tapes
will be restored later this morning.
FUTURS will shut down sometime around 11:30 am to midday, while the
system disk is swapped over. When the cluster comes up, we have some
additional checking to perform, and will attempt to recover any files
on the system disk modified since 5th September.
The cluster should be available later today, with a bit of luck.
Please let me know if you are aware of any changes made tio system disk
in the last two weeks.
The problem was caused by a flaky HDA.
