428.0. "DECdesign, new extended Gane & Sarson Methodology" by CRATE::GREENS () Tue Jun 04 1991 10:17

A new methodology is available for DECdesign, extending the
reports available for Gane & Sarson to include output into
.SDML code. From what I can tell from the release notes
and user instructions it will generate both .SDML files and
postscript files for inclusion into DPM functional specification,
design and detailed design specifications.

Existing work can be extracted to from Gane & Sarson libraries
and loaded in to DES_DPM libraries for quick and easy output.
The only major constraint is that Structure Chart views can
not be validated in a DES_DPM library. All other methodology
libraries are not effected in any way.

I have talked to Peter and we hope to have the extensions
installed on Futurs some time next week once the V1.0
kit is issued.

Cheers,

Steve.

428.1DEFORMS IFDL Generation from DECdesign libraryCHEST::GREENSTue Jun 11 1991 11:0219
A new library type has been announced that comes as
part of a new tool for DECdesign. It allows the specification
and generation of DECForms IFDL sources. Its a prototype and
works only for DECdesign V1.1.

The documentation is in the DECdesign notes conference

 CLT::DECDESIGN

Note 477.*

It looks like it could be usefull during the preparation DPM functional and
design specifications for preapring user interface definitions
for customer approval.

Hopefully we can set it up sometime in the near future.

428.2SCA to DESIGN structure chartsSBPEXE::CHAMBERSMark ChambersWed Jun 12 1991 14:1919
For your general entertainment I have got hold of a tool from SD&E Munich
that will take information from an SCA library and produce an extract file
which can be loaded into DECdesign.

The tool, at present, is in DISK$DATA5:[CHAMBERS.PUBLIC]

Instructions are in the file SCADES_USER_GUIDE_ENG.PS
	(VIEW/INTER=DECW SCADES_USER_GUIDE_ENG.PS/FORM=PS to read)

The command file DISK$DATA5:[CHAMBERS.PUBLIC]TEST.COM is an example of what
needs to be done and the file DISK$DATA5:[CHAMBERS.PUBLIC]TEST.DES$EXTRACT is
and example of the output which may be loaded into DECdesign (UTILITIES->LOAD).

Source code is available, the tool is unsupported, all messages to the
screen are in German and the tool is a little bit buggy (not bad enough to
make it unuseable though). I have produced several structure charts using it
so if you really get stuck there is a slim change I might be able to help.

428.3DES DPM Installation planned for Thurs 13 June.CHEST::GREENSWed Jun 12 1991 15:1013
I have now got the kit for the latest version of DESDPM. Peter has
agreed that we can install it on Futurs tommorow (13th June). It
should not take more than an hour, but during this time DECdesign
should not be used. I will start the installation at 10 am so
please don't use it between 10 and 11.

If this creates any difficulties for anyone please let me know
and I can reschedule the installation.

Cheers,

Steve.
428.4DESDPM installation completedCHEST::GREENSThu Jun 13 1991 12:2426
I have installed DESDPM....

BUT.....

I have not been able to convert the ddif files generated using
the new options on the decdesign session manager tools menu.
Convert/document gives me an access violation ? sounds like it
could be a CDA version problem, I am not sure.

The SDML files also seem to miss some of the information held
in the decdesign library. It places comments in the SDML saying
that descriptions of objects could not be found. I will try and
check these things out with SDE tools in Munich as soon as
possible.

The release notes and user documentaton have been placed in
DES$PREDEFINED: DESDPM_USER_GUIDE.PS & DESDPM010_RELNOTES.PS

If anyone has any more luck with this or suggestions let me know.

Cheers,

Steve.
428.5DESDPM Definatly does work .....!CURRNT::GREENSFri Jul 12 1991 16:0116
Hi,

The DESDPM extensions to DECdesign seems to working fine. The DIAGRAMS_DOC
report type egenrates DDIF files that do not give an ACCVIO when the
it is converted. It must be that the files I was testing with had some
quirk that caused the ACCVIO.

I have found some facts out that may be usefull to others when using DESDPM.
Many of the descriptions that it looks for when creating the .SDML files
will not show up unless you propogate the changes from the associated
Data Dictionary entries. So when creating new DDEs remeber to propogate changes
before you save it. This should mean that the .SDML sources are not
filled with comments stating that the description was not found when you
know that it is in the DDE.

Cheers Steve.
