| You need a print que defined on TTA3:
Use a command file like:
$ DEFINE /SYSTEM $Printer tta3: ! if a hard copy terminal is the printer
$ SET TERM TTA3 -
/PERM/DEVICE=LA75/INTERACTIVE/NOMODEM/HOSTSYNC -
/TTSYNC/NOWRAP/NOBROAD/TYPE/SPEED=4800/WIDTH=80 -
/PAGE=66
$ SET DEVICE /SPOOLED=(SYS$PRINT, SYS$SYSDEVICE:) $Printer
$
$!
$! To start the print queue, remove the comment character from one of
$! the following command lines.
$!
$ INITIALIZE /QUEUE /START /ON=$Printer SYS$PRINT /DEFAULT=FLAG ! line printer
$
$!
$ EXIT
That will then be your sys$print.
Plug the LA73 into the printer port at the back of your VS3100

Ignore this piece of advice...
you will get *EVERY* system message from all the workstations printed to
your printer if you do this !
Give me a call if you need a queue set up.

377.3 | It don't work that way... | CURRNT::RUSSELL | Middle-aged Mutant Hero Turtle (UK option) | Mon Oct 01 1990 15:17 | 21 |
| re .0;
Sorry, Rob, the "print screen" doesn't work in that way on
workstations.
By following the previous tips (You'll probably have to get your boot
node minder to help) you'll be able to do sixel dumps of the screen (or
a portion of it) to the printer.
You may well find it just as easy (and a higher quality) to "capture"
part of the screen, and then print the sixel file on a local LN03.
(Play with the options and colours, so that you don't get a black
background - it knackers both the LA75 and the LN03!)
As always, if you have a prob with it, pop down and see one of us.
There are other options; I'll be happy to swap you a VT320, which has a
fully functioning print screen key....
Peter.

| Many thanks David, Jane and Peter for the thoughtful (SP!), friendly advice.
It's so nice to work for a company where the people are so kind. I'm really
glad I came back - blah blah blah ............
Have the three of you thought about setting up a hotline - you know
ADG-Samaritans can I have your badge number ?
Cheers David for telling me about the queue etc ...
Cheers Jane for the queue help and letting me know to ignore David's advice
Cheers Peter for the offer of the 320 - I've got one of those as well (sort-of)
Now project-for-the-week - get your pens and paper ready to take this down.
Design and Implement an LA75 companion printer workstation attachment such that
when I press the print screen key on my workstation keyboard I either get
a) A screen dump in glorious grey-scale-techni-black-and-white of the complete
workstation screen
b) a VT100 screen dump of the window that my mouse is currently sitting in.
P.S. Hint one of the projects is decidely simpler that the other - Part of the
test is for you to work out which !

There already sort of is....
they are called "Technical Consultants" one of which, for my sins...(I don't
know what Peter has done, but he *must* have done something)...I already am...
'tis why we try to answer the questions !

| And as she's so superior, she's leaving the practical part of the
exercise to the student (ie, You, Rob).. as it's too simple for
her to worry about.
