349.0. "VWSLAT out, LATMASTER in!" by CURRNT::DAVIES (Close, but no banana.) Wed Jun 06 1990 11:19

    Can you pass the message around (for anyone with a Workstation)
    that VWSLAT has been superceded on each of the LAVC Bootservers
    by LATMASTER.

    To use LATMASTER your workstation will need to be rebooted to pick
    up the required new software and the associated configuration files.

    After the reboot you simply need to type: MC DDE in a window and
    this should get LATMASTER off and running.

    (You can of course tailor you applications menu to start it...)

    Thinks: If it's called LATMASTER, what on earth has DDE got to
    do with it????

349.2 session killer CUCKOO::SPENCERFri Jul 13 1990 17:0415
Now that vwslat is no more is anyone having the same problems as I am with
Latmaster. These include warnings like

X Toolkit Warning: Cannot find callback list in XtAddCallbacks

( which by the way also accompanies notes ), crashes due to non typable
characters being displayed, nodes that say they are available but turn out to be
down, if a terminal created by latmaster hangs and you delete the process on the
machines which you connected to latmaster crashes, terminals causing large amounts
of graphics output (regis) hang...........

If noone else is having these problems ( know of 1 otherin my group) could we
 have the setup looked into. If lots of people are - why are we using it?

349.3More bugs with LatmasterSOOTY::ALFORDAn elephant is a mouse with an operating systemFri Jul 13 1990 18:134

    terminals processing large amounts of sixel grapics crash Latmaster.

    None of the Edit and Customise icon menu options work.
349.4don't bother with DDECURRNT::HAYCOXBaby you make me go Brummm Brumm...Fri Jul 13 1990 18:159
    What do you need DDE for anyway ? $create/term/... does a much
    better job.

    If you have to have to get to a node using LAT then try
    $ set command sys$manager:ltpadcmd
    $ set_host_lat node
    and avoid DDE.

349.5tried the followingCUCKOO::SPENCERMon Jul 16 1990 10:596
Thanks Ian, I tried your second idea and it works fine. Set host seems to be
being used by a lot of people since it is getting very difficult to get onto a
node via that method ( can't remember the error given, but it means set host
limit reached).

Nigel.
